Learn the Royal Ridge Stitch with Maggie

This crochet stitch looks like it would be difficult, but it is an extremely easy stitch to crochet. This is a great stitch for a beginner crocheter. With very little experience crocheting you should be able to do this stitch with no problem at all – especially with my video to help. Before doing the video on the ridge stitch I had never done this crochet stitch before. I was amazed at how easy it was to do. It looked like it would be complicated; but it wasn’t.

You can use this crochet stitch to create a lot of interesting designs. For starters there is a free crochet dishcloth pattern called the Ridge stitch dishcloth.

With the repeat pattern below you can crochet anything from a dishcloth, potholder or hat to an Afghan, rug or placement. The possibilities are endless with crochet. If you create a project with this stitch I would love to see pictures. Please post in the comments below.

Note: To identify the loop under the top of the stitch, start with the back of the previous row facing you (the row you’re about to work in). Notice the front and back loops on top of the stitch. Look below this to find the loop you’ll be working in.

Row 1: (Right Side) Ch any number +1; hdc in 2nd ch from hook, [hdc in next ch] across.

Row 2: Ch 1, turn, working in lp below top of st, hdc in each hdc across.

Subsequent Rows: Repeat Row 2.
