Last month I showed you how to do the Basket Weave Stitch in a YouTube video. Now that you’ve got the basics of the stitch down, it’s time to practice this stitch with our new FREE pattern below along with other patterns and ideas that use this stitch as well. Left handed Basket Weave Tutorial
Once you’ve mastered the art of the basket weave stitch, try this cowl with Maggie in the video how-to below.

Back Post Double Crochet and Front Post Double Crochet.
Special Stitches Front Post Raised Double Crochet: (FPdc): YO, insert hook in front of work from right to left around next dc of previous row, YO, pull up a lp, (YO, pull through 2 lps) twice.
Back Post Raised Double Crochet: (BPdc): YO, insert hook in back of work from right to left around next dc of previous row, YO, pull up a lp, (YO, pull through 2 lps) twice.
Note: When FPdc or BPdc is worked, do not work st directly behind st. Skip this st and work in the next st.
Abbreviations ch = chain dc= double crochet rep = repeat
Basket Weave Cowl Crochet Pattern:
Row 1: (Right Side) Starting at bottom, with A, ch 14, dc in 4th ch from hook (skipped ch count as first dc), [dc in next ch) across. (12 dc)
Rows 2-3: Ch 3 (counts as first dc now and throughout), turn, FPdc in next 3 dc, BPdc in next 4 dc, [FPdc in next 4 dc] across. (12 dc)
Rows 4-5: Ch 3, turn, BPdc in next 3 dc, FPdc in next 4 dc, BPdc in next 4 dc. (12 dc)
Next Rows: Rep Rows 2-5 until piece measures 24″ long.
Last 2 Rows: Rep Rows 2-3, finish off and weave in ends.
Finishing Using picture as a guide, sew 2 large buttons to Cowl.
Please remember there are different variations of the Basket Weave Stitch but the basic technique of alternating front and back post double crochets to creat a woven fabric remains the same.
