I learned to crochet when I was about 6 years old–simple things. I did not gather the confidence to really branch out and make more difficult things until my girls were born–motherhood really does inspire. When I became a grandmother, I discovered that I had a flair and talent for design. The biggest blessing that I received from the art of crochet, was not from the beautiful things that I could make using my own or someone else’s pattern that I had bought. The biggest blessing came from the discovery that crochet soothes the soul. I am not a very logical person; BUT, while I am, in truth, a very emotional person, I do possess a great deal of common sense. I am also a life long sufferer from severe and chronic depression. I discovered that crochet and knitting (especially when I design my own) helps to leech away that excess of emotion so that I can get to a better place in my head. The absolute best therapy is when I make prayer shawls or blankets because then, I am crocheting/knitting and talking to God at the same time. I pass on my knowledge and skill to anyone who wants to learn so that anyone may know the joy of creating something beautiful–and the peace, which I have found, that comes with it.
