One of my favorite things to do during the winter is to curl up with a good book and a cuddly soft afghan. This afghan pattern is called Reading Ripple. It has a beautiful ripple stitch and is done using Ever Soft®, a 100% acrylic, #4 worsted weight, cuddly soft yarn that comes in 36 solid colors and 9 multi-colors. The pattern calls for 5 different colors of yarn, but you could choose to use fewer or more colors. This is a great pattern to experiment with color combinations, and it is also a good project for using up scrap yarn. The possibilities are endless.
Reading Ripple is an intermediate skill level project. To complete this afghan, you will need approximately 50 ounces of yarn in assorted colors, and a size I-9 / (5.5 mm) crochet hook. The pattern mirrors and repeats itself, so it is really very easy to remember once you get the hang of it.

The Reading Ripple afghan is a great winter project, and the pattern is excellent for experimenting with color. You could use pastels for a springtime effect, or earth tones for an autumn feel. Bright, primary colors will put you in a summer mood, cheering up the dark winter days. Whatever colors you choose, your afghan will be treasured for many seasons to come.
Another great afghan project is the Hexababy Blanket , which is also a good pattern for experimenting with colors.
