The Icy Snowflake Afghan is based off of a pattern I designed years ago – The Christmas Wrapping Afghan.
The Christmas Wrapping Afghan uses three different colors of worsted weight yarn and a size I-9 crochet hook. We used red, green, and white to make a holiday inspired throw.
The Icy Snowflake is an updated version using Bulky Weight yarn, so it works up fast! We used Deborah Norville Serenity Chunky Yarn in Cloud Dancer and Memphis Blues, but any #5 Bulky Weight yarn will work great. You’ll also need a size L-11 crochet hook.
Each afghan is made by crocheting 20 snowflake blocks, then sewing them together and adding a border. You can also make a matching pillow for either afghan using the same block pattern. You’ll need two blocks for the front and back.
