Stitch Repeat Shell #1 – Free Crochet Pattern

beginning-maggies-crochet-stitch-repeat-shell-1-free-pattern

There are many, many variations on a shell stitch!  While they almost universally involve working multiple stitches in the same stitch, they could be double crochets, triple crochets, or another stitch, and may or may not use chain stitches in the middle of the shell.  If you’re working a pattern that calls for a shell stitch, it ought to include directions for specific stitch it requires at the beginning of the pattern.

This Shell Stitch Variation is worked with double crochets and chain stitches. Each shell is worked into the middle of the shell on the previous row, so the shells stack up in an almost column-like fashion.

This stitch repeat can be worked with any size yarn. Use the hook size recommend for whatever yarn you choose. Worsted weight yarn is a good size to practice with and is what we used in the tutorial video (found below).

Video #7 Shell #1- of how many?

I really like this-this shell #1! It’s So very simple yet has a great look- that’s not typical, at least from my perspective.

It was so very helpful that she showed the sample from sport weight yarn-so fine and lovely. I would think it might be important to have loose to start to avoid having it curl? Is that right?

For added video, I bet there are endless numbers of shell stitches (I guess all stitches are really outgrowths of others but I mean close cousins)-I feel that the #1 is really the key and is somehow expected.
I really want to see completed articles using shell stitches of all kinds with names & descriptions attached. I am eager to make things using shell stitches but want to have a good concept of the range of what shell stitches can cover. Please?
